HPV: HEALTH DISTRICT III PARTNERS ETI-OSA EAST LCDA ON VACCINATION


Following the commencement of the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccination campaign in Lagos State, the Permanent Secretary of Health District III, Dr. Monsurat Adeleke, in partnership with the Chairman of Eti-OSA East LCDA, Hon John Campos, recently flagged off the vaccination programme for the benefit of young girls within the Council premises.


Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary stressed the importance of vaccinating young girls against cervical cancer, which according to her can have devastating effects on the female folks in the future if not quickly addressed.


She said: “Vaccinating young girls is of utmost importance as it serves as a protective measure against HPV infection, significantly reducing the risk of cervical cancer development later in life”.


While noting that the vaccine is accessible at no cost at all health facilities, educational institutions, and places of worship throughout the state, she emphasised that the vaccine is both safe and highly efficient.


Dr. Adeleke maintained that the HPV vaccination campaign is a substantial stride in bolstering public health in the state, as it underscores Mr. Governor’s dedication to advancing quality healthcare and mitigating the impact of preventable diseases like cervical cancer.


She promised to join hands with the LCDA to intensify the advocacy on the efficacy and importance of the virus at places of worship and other public places as highlighted in the coverage areas for the HPV vaccination for now.


Recall that the wife of the State Governor, Dr. (Mrs.) Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu had earlier flagged off the HPV vaccination at an event held within the Surulere Local Government Secretariat on Monday, 30th October 2023.
