SANWO-OLU APPOINTS, SWEARS IN KEMI OGUNYEMI AS SPECIAL ADVISER ON HEALTH
… As Ogunyemi Seeks Cooperation of all Health Stakeholders to Achieve THEMES Plus Agenda
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Friday, appointed and sworn in Mrs. Kemi Ogunyemi as Special Adviser on Health into the State Executive Council in a bid to expand the scope of administration in the State’s health care system.
Mrs. Oluwakemi Ogunyemi, a nurse and two-term member of the Lagos State Health Service Commission, was sworn in on Friday as Special Adviser to the Governor on Health. She took the oath at a ceremony held at the State House, Alausa.
Sanwo-Olu congratulated Ogunyemi on her deserved appointment, reminding her that the expectations that warranted her appointment were high, given her wealth of experience and knowledge in the medical profession, leadership and governance.
The Governor expressed his confidence that the newly appointed Special Adviser would live up to her billing and the trust reposed in her in the discharge of her responsibilities.
He said, “I welcome Mrs. Oluwakemi Ogunyemi to the State Executive Council, having been confirmed by the House of Assembly. She will be serving as Special Adviser on Health. The expectations are high, given the wealth of experience she is bringing to the table. I expect that you would immediately settle into your responsibilities so that the Government and the people of Lagos can harness your full potential, while you work to help actualise all of the programmes and activities in your portfolios”.
After the swearing-in ceremony by Mr Governor, Ogunyemi was received at the Conference Room of the State Ministry of Health by top Government officials in the health sector, including the Chairman, Lagos State Health Service Commission, Dr. Atinuke Onayiga; Commissioners of the State Health Service Commission; members of the Body of Permanent Secretaries in the health sector; Medical Directors of State-owned Hospitals; Directors and staff of the Ministry of Health and members of the State Nursing family amidst wild jubilation and cheers.
Speaking at the reception ceremony held in her honour, Ogunyemi sought the cooperation, support and collaboration of all stakeholders in the health sector to drive the mandate of the Governor towards achieving universal health coverage and improving access to qualitative and efficient health services for the teaming population of the State.
She said: “I thank Mr. Governor who appointed me in his cabinet to assist him in achieving the THEMES agenda, especially in the health sector. I was not expecting to be a cabinet member, I did not lobby, but you know when God does something you can’t question. I was excited when I got the call.
“One thing I will continue saying is that you have to make yourself valuable in whatever you are doing, you have to do it right, and you have to show people your value otherwise if you do not do things right nobody is going to recognise you, and when you are of value, people will want you and will not want to see you go. So l always work very hard”, Ogunyemi added.
Also, present at the event were the Permanent Secretary, Health District I, Dr Olufunmilayo Bankole; Permanent Secretary, Health District II, Dr Dayo Lajide; Permanent Secretary, Health District III, Dr Monsurat Adeleke; Permanent Secretary, Health District IV, Dr Abimbola Bowale and Permanent Secretary, Health District VI, Dr. Abimbola Mabogunje.
