CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION
Since the inception of the previous administration under the Governorship of Bola Ahmed Tinubu the Ministry has been organizing Medical Education as a Mandatory Program for upgrading the academic and technical knowledge of its personnel.
This we believe will enhance productivity, improve quality of service and create job satisfaction for all the cadre of our workers and interested private healthcare provider.
This present administration has also intensified the programme by ensuring the delivery of quality, sound, modern and up-to-date technologically driven healthcare services to citizens of Lagos State. This is the Mission Statement of the programme.
The programme is governed by a committee that meets monthly
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

1. To change the attitudes of the health workers to new information updating knowledge and practices at regular intervals.
2. To create an enabling environment for academic and in-service training
3. To encourage regular review of clinical practice with require change in order to improve the health care system.
4. To provide job satisfaction for the more inquisitive minds who require a dynamic environment to perform their function.
5. To provide better qualitative up to date health care for the citizens of Lagos.
METHODOLOGY
The Continuing Medical Education program shall be carried out at the following levels
1. UNIT
2. DISTRICT
3. ZONAL
4. STATE
At the State Level a committee is constituted to come up with the topic for the year. They meet monthly to ensure a successful delivery of each CME.
MEMBERSHIP AT THE STATE LEVEL INCLUDE
State Level (Central Committee)
1. Honourable Commissioner for Health
2. Permanent Secretary-Ministry of Health
3. Chairman-Lagos State Hospitals Management Board
4. Permanent Secretary-Lagos State Hospitals Management Board (HSC)
5. DMAT
6. Consultants from some hospital units in the state
7. Secretary
FUNCTIONS-THE CENTRAL COMMITTEE SHALL:
1. Formulate policies, monitor and evaluate all CME activities
2. Coordinate activities of the other levels and give appropriate directives to ensure smooth running of the programme.
3. Compile all the proceedings from all CME activities
4. Ensure that adequate budgetary provisions are made for the programmes
5. Organise twice yearly lectures, Seminars/Symposium on relevant broad base topics etc.
6. Ensure adequate Government political will and support for the programme.
7. Choose appropriate venues for its activities and ensure adequate participation and publicity.
GENERAL
Participation and attendance at the CME activities shall be one of the yardsticks for promotion.
Efforts will be made to get accreditation from the relevant professional supervisory and regulatory bodies such that certificates will be presented and appropriate scoring of points would be done. These can then be used for annual registration for these bodies. Attendance will attract 10 credits at CME activities monthly.

A State CME session was organized for the entire health work force in May 2011.
