Dr. (Mrs) Olufemi Taiwo was born on the 28th November, 1958. She attended Staff School, University of Ibadan from 1963 to 1969 for her primary school education. She later went to Queen’s School, Ibadan from 1970 to 1974, where she obtained the West African School Certificate and later proceeded to the International School, University of Ibadan where she obtained the International Baccalaureate in 1977.
Dr. Taiwo studied medicine at the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, where she was awarded the Medical Certificate of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 1982. She was awarded the Master in Public Health certificate at the College of Medicine University of Lagos in 1988.
The Director obtained Fellowship of the Medical College of Public Health (FMCPH) from the National Postgraduate Medical College, in 1992. She has been a Public Health examiner for the National Postgraduate College since 2005. She also delivers part time lectures for the Master in Public Health programmes of the University of Lagos and Lagos University College of Medicine.
In 1998, Dr. Taiwo was awarded a 3-year MacArthur Foundation Research Fund for Leadership Development in Male Reproductive Health and in 2000 she obtained the Bill Gates Scholarship for Strategic Leadership Course in Reproductive Health from John Hopkins School of Public Health, Maryland, Baltimore, USA.
Dr. Taiwo served as the Medical Officer of Health (MOH) of Badagry, Kosofe, Lagos Island and Somolu Local Government Areas from 1993 to 2006 before she was transferred to the Ministry of Health in 2006 where she was appointed as the Director of Disease Control, a position she held till 2012.
Dr. Taiwo became the Director of HealthCare Planning, Research and Statistics in 2012, a position she occupies to date.
